The Cloudstory BioFrame XXVII is Cloudstory’s answer to the sustainability challenge of conventional petroleum-based acetate production, using a proprietary bio-acetate formulation in which 72% of the plasticizer content is derived from castor oil — a renewable, non-food-competitive agricultural byproduct — rather than phthalate-based petroleum plasticizers used in standard cellulose acetate. The resulting material displays identical optical quality, surface finish, and machining characteristics to conventional acetate while reducing the fossil fuel content of the frame by approximately 40% and completely eliminating phthalate compounds from the material composition. The BioFrame acetate is processed through the same Mazzucchelli sheet manufacturing system as Cloudstory’s conventional acetate frames, ensuring no compromise in color depth, surface quality, or frame geometry precision. Polarized CR-39 lenses in a classic 55 mm rectangular shape provide Category 3 sun protection with 99.9% glare reduction. Five-barrel hinges with solid stainless steel barrel pins are retained using Loctite-free mechanical locking to allow disassembly for frame repair without tools. Replacement hinge pins, temple tips, and nose pads are available individually from Cloudstory customer service for full frame repairability without complete replacement.
